Divine Love (Excerpt from "The Shikchastak" by H.D. Swami Prakashanand Saraswati)

Love for Krishn is something very high. It is related to one's soul, one's original inner being. Compared with worldly love, Krishn's love is millions of times greater. It is boundlessly great. Then why is not experienced in the beginning? Because the heart is not pure. It is clouded with mayic defilements and is not established in divine-love-consciousness (bhao bhakti). But when it is established, these expressions occur.

In correct devotion there must be some emotional feeling. Some devotees may feel tears, a thrill in the heart or some other emotional feelins, frequently or infrequently. There must be something. There should not be dry devotion for years and years without any emotional feelings. If it is so, there is something wrong. Either your process of devotion is incorrect or your spiritual teacher is unable to grace you with real affinity with Krishn. A speech of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is notable in this reference.

Lord Chaitanya never talked much. Mostly he gave practical satsang of chanting of Krishn name and leelas. Sometimes he spoke on theory also. Once while some close devotees were sitting around him he spoke a verse [ ]. There is a promise in this verse. It is our tradition that if you say something three times it becomes a promise. He said "In the age of kali, only the 'rememberance' of Krishn is the way to Divine enlightenment and entrance into the Divine abode of Godhead personality."
There is a big difference between 'name' and 'word'. Thus Harer nam means the name of Krishn, not the word Krishn. There must be a unity of heart with krishn. There must be an affinity. If there is no affinity of any degree, there is no love, and without love mere repetition of the word 'Krishn' has little spiritual value. Lord Chaitany clearly stressed that devotion, remembrance, or chanting must be done with a warm heart filled with love for Krishn, not an empty heart.
